Trinity Publications Group, Inc

Many First Nations and American Indian students have received scholarships throughout our 15 years publishing the First Nations College Guide and the more recent (8years) American Indian Education Guide.

We are pleased to support the efforts of these outstanding individuals. We are even more pleased when we hear back from them! It is very gratifying to know that our humble assistance has helped deserving students in their educational pursuits.

Their stories never fail to inspire. Here's what one of this year's recipients, Heidi Dixon, had to say:

Heidi Kimberly Anne Dixon

I would like to thank the Trinity Publications Group for the First Nations College Program Type 2 Scholarship of $500.

I am currently studying at Memorial University, working towards a Bachelor Degree in Science (Biochemistry). After I obtain my first degree I hope to begin a medical degree to become a Pediatric Endocrinologist.

I was born and raised in Gander, Newfoundland. I graduated High School with Honors, receiving a Diploma in French Immersion.

I have been a diabetic since I was 21 months old and all my life I have been surrounded by health care workers. I realize the care they provide is so important, and my hope is to study medicine so I can one day help children with diabetes.

Although I have been raised and attended school in Newfoundland, I am a Non Status Indian and belong to the Gwich'in Nation in Inuvik, N.W.T. Someday I hope to go to the Northwest Territories, possibly as a doctor or researcher.

This year has been totally awesome, and rather anxious! I went to live in the city, alone, for the first time. I thought Gander was a fairly big town until I went to University. The student population at Memorial University is the same as in my whole home town -10,000!

I have learnt many things living alone - how to cook, clean and take care of my medical needs. I have realized how to handle the money I have to buy groceries and other essential needs.

I have learned that university is not at all like high school. I have learned to pace myself going to and from classes, science labs, and night courses. Always remembering to eat healthy, checking my blood sugars and getting the rest I need.

I have always been a good student but it requires so much more here! I had to realize that my best was all I could give.

I appreciate that Trinity Publications Group is doing so much to help Aboriginal students pursue post secondary education.

For me, this scholarship will be a great help in pursuing my educational dreams. It will offset some of the costs that university brings, making my year at university a little easier.
