I have had the pleasure of teaching Lara (Des Roches) in multiple settings since September of 2007. Lara has always comes to class prepared and ready to learn. She is one of the few students in my class who is prepared each week, and because of this she brings information to the classroom which generates and adds to discussions. Other students are easily guided by her leadership abilities. She is always on time, and present. Within the hospital setting I found Lara to be a self-guided learner. She could always get all of her work done, while still taking the time to do "the little things" for her clients. It was often apparent that Lara's knowledge of her clients were sometimes superior to the knowledge of her peers, however, she continued to work alongside her peers to help foster the learning of the group. It is with great pleasure I would recommend Lara for any job or bursary/scholarship in which she applies. –Holly Schofield, Nurse Educator |
I have known Lara Des Roches since she became a nursing student at Camosun College in September 2006. Her grades are excellent and her GPA is consistently in the "A" range. Lara is well liked by her peers and is often sought out for assistance with course material. Her hard work ethic and ability to help others influenced her to spearhead her own group tutoring session for Biology during her first semester despite the fact that she was enrolled in six classes.
Lara has been involved in many community events and continues to volunteer in her spare time. Lara manages to fit into one week what would take most of us two weeks to complete; she is highly organized and her time management skills are superior. These qualities lend to excellence in any profession.
Lara is driven; she keeps her eye on the prize, yet strives to maintain balance in all aspects of her life. Not only does she work hard at her academics and volunteer work, but she also works hard to maintain good health and fitness; in her spare time Lara can often be found working out or researching about nutrition, massage and fitness. Clearly, her ability to multi-task and remain balanced and focused is innovative.
To that end, it is my pleasure to recommend Lara for any job position or education award for which she applies. Her hard work ethic, ability t help others, self motivated learning and drive to succeed make her a strong individual. I have no doubt she will make a great nurse.

In Her Own Words
In September 2006 I entered the Nursing Program at Camosun College in Victoria. I plan on working in Northern Canada within Aboriginal communities. I plan on focusing on illness prevention, healthful eating and the positive effects of empowerment. I have a strong desire to assist growth within aboriginal communities and to support those in need.
Throughout high school I was an active member of my school and continue to be an active member in my community. Recently I have been working as a student nurse in an acute surgical unit and continue to be an active member of MADD (Mothers against Drunk Driving).
In order to maintain balance I incorporate healthy activities I'm passionate about. I enjoy salsa dancing, massage therapy, keeping fit and conducting self-motivated research projects about health.
I have a strong interest in improving my health and the health of others by becoming a nurse.
